The writer gives life to a story, the reader keeps it alive.
Inajda has been working deep undercover as a socialite, in an attempt to infiltrate a new Amanojuko experiment, entitled “The Floating Asylum,” which the Amanojuko plan to use to cleanse the human population of any resistance. She has managed to get herself a pass, and using one of Katherine’s blood shields, she waits at the security desk ready to board the ship.
Alexand and her agents travel north east towards Nepal. The borders aren’t as closely monitored in the mountains, and they have to leave no trace of themselves at military checkpoints. The Amanojuko have spies in the army, and they can’t risk exposing themselves to capture. They blend into crowds, breaking into small groups, and meeting up again in less populated places.

Two months have passed and Alexand and Katherine have gathered in secret, inside Jarad’s house, with seven of Abouna Panak’s most trusted double agents. Katherine recovered enough to join the siblings in the morning. Her illness hits her in waves. At the moment she is able to walk, and feels better than she did the night before. Katherine is woken by a familiar voice, after a long journey to reunite with Alexand. This issue is dedicated to my dad who died 19 years ago on 2nd December, a day after my 21st Birthday. My dad was a very clever and talented man and I constantly miss him. This is for you Dad. My stories and my world are dedicated to you. You died before I was old enough to know who you were. Katherine waited a week, not expecting to be visited by a future version of Juba Apfvarzian, but after a spate of feeling very sick, there was a knock on her apartment door, and standing there was a man, with dreadlocks, much older than the boy she’d seen performing magic. Katherine attempted to buy a lift back home to Saskatoon military base, but was turned away, due to her illness. The driver told her she shouldn’t be out in public spreading her disease about. She was left standing in the rain, as the first part of the monsoon winds hit. The local landlords also refused her a bed to stay. She found a place to shelter, in a tree house, built for local children. Dripping wet and freezing cold, she sat inside, attempting to shelter from the rains. After leaving the laboratory, Katherine retreated to her apartment, and sat staring at the wall for what seemed like hours. Once she’d stopped staring, she packed a bag of overnight supplies and set off outside, with one particular place in mind. After a few hours of traveling she found herself outside her father’s mansion, hoping somehow this would be enough to satisfy her need for closure. With, Inajda and Anesidor unreachable, Alex in Australia, her laboratory occupied, and her appetite for reading diminished by her failing eyesight, Georges and Kavita De Somme are all Katherine has left to turn to. After convincing Farokh to keep silent, Katherine makes her way slowly to her laboratory, in an attempt to continue her research into decoding the catalyst. After having tidied herself up after her shower, Katherine returns to the lounge to confront Farokh about the map he accidentally saw when he found her lying unconscious. Katherine walked to her bathroom, hoping that Farokh would leave by the time she’d finished having a shower. She locked the door and dumped all her vomit-covered clothes on the floor, still confused and slightly traumatised by her collapse. Before Alex had to leave for a five-month tour of duty to Australia, she asked her brother Farokh to make sure Katherine was looking after herself properly. (She gave him a spare key to her apartment.) Two months have passed since Farokh was asked, and he hasn’t visited, due to the fact he forgot, and is also mildly frightened of the rather austere Katherine. It took Alexand’s division just under a month to reach Australia by boat. She has been there for a week and has been administering the plague victims with their own supply of injections, as part of a trial to see how much longer Katherine’s serum adds to the lifespan of this control group. The Guild Master’s General takes Abouna Panak forward in time to the year 4002, where Alexand has discharged herself from the military due to alcoholism, and is heading for Goa to lead a healthier lifestyle, along with her husband, Jarad and their three children, Samuel, Ancille and Anastasia. Katherine and Alex have spent the evening going over the plans of the Amanojuko base, but it’s getting late. Katherine got tired, so to relax, she and Alex started drinking wine in their living room. A few weeks have passed and Katherine has been recovering from her surgery at home. Field Marshal Panak arranged for her and Alex to have leave. She has been very fatigued but is beginning to feel a little better. (CLICK HERE for next chronological story)
Two weeks have passed since the consultation with Dr Bhati. Katherine has undergone revolutionary surgery to replace her kidney and lungs with cloned organs, she has had a mastectomy and radiotherapy and lays unconscious in Doctor Bhati’s recovery ward, with Alexand sitting beside her, reading, waiting for her to wake up from the anaesthetic. Katherine and Alex went to see a research scientist involved in diagnostics for ancient (and extinct) diseases. (Her name is Dr Bhati and she is also working for Field Marshal Panak. When Katherine and Alex returned home, Katherine went straight to bed as she felt exhausted. She and Alexand lie next to each other, contemplating their future. Alex and Inajda walked to the laboratory and met up with Katherine and Anesidor. Field Marshal Panak has been building a secret army, to counter the coming Amanojuko threat, and Anesidor has traced him to his operations base on an abandoned Christmas Island, leaving Inajda to report back to him. After Alex recovered from her injuries enough to see again, she and Katherine asked for Inajda’s help in locating the illusive Professor Anesidor Sumian. Sumian had mysteriously disappeared from radar due to the dangers faced by the resistance. Inajda has brought them to Sumian’s transient laboratory, so that Katherine has a greater chance of analysing the blood samples, with Sumian’s state of the art (and very illegal) technology. Katherine had already analysed the hair attempting to find out something about the identity of her attacker. (See issue 118: You’re In The Army Now Part 8) After arguing about keeping the information from her, Alex insisted she helped locate the mysterious attacker and demanded Katherine provide her with every scrap of evidence she has, which could lead to an identity. Fearing the task too dangerous, but unable to dissuade Alexand from her new quest to save her life, Katherine left Alex with her findings, warning her not to do anything without consulting her first. (HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!) Alexand Merek has been unable to return to the army, due to her asylum record. She spends most of her time very isolated and alone, as her husband, Jarad teaches English to rich Indian families and often spends day’s away working. She is not accepted in her community and cannot get a job teaching music because of her conviction. Her son Samuel is unable to go to school, due to the stigma attached to her imprisonment. Alexand spends a lot of time teaching him at home, but is sinking deeper into depression and alcoholism. One day a knock at the door changes her family’s prospects. After returning back to Saskatoon military base, from her father’s funeral, Alexand Merek ponders her future. She lost the fingers on her right hand when a man in a balaclava sliced them off, (See The Guild Master’s General Part 1) She sits redundantly by the piano in the entertainment bar, wondering how she will ever play again. After her daughter, Alexand was released from a Floating Asylum, Inajda spent six months helping Alexand’s husband, Jarad to care for Alexand. Alexand returned in a catatonic and emaciated state, but eventually woke up. A month after Alex woke, Inajda is trying to help her daughter come to terms with what has happened to her. Six year old Lali De Somme has escaped to play in the woods with her elder sister, Katherine. Their father Georges doesn’t let them play outside the grounds of their mansion, as he fears the poor local children will distract them from their important studies. Georges has been away for a week, at a conference in Denmark and isn’t due back until tomorrow. His daughters have taken advantage of his absence, supported by their sympathetic mother, Kavita. Katherine has been in military correction for four years. It was developed by Anesidor Sumian, and smuggled from America for the resistance in India by Alexand’s mother, Inajda Rekaya, on command of her superior officer, Abouna Panak, who has established links with the American resistance.) Five years have passed since Alexand Merek was sentenced to serve ten years in a military correction facility, for accidentally killing her friend, Baio-Yujia Sun. (See issue 25 and issue 26) When Alexand was seventeen she was selected to work for Dr. Katherine De Somme, a micro biologist and has worked in her laboratory for the past three years. However, Alexand was up late, playing piano in the entertainment bar, celebrating the release of her sister, Heyem and friend Jarad, and has turned up uncharacteristically late to work. Georges De Somme lost his youngest daughter, Lali, in a horrible accident, which he blamed his elder daughter, Katherine for. Farokh is thirteen and has just lost his father, Eric, to a heart attack. He is angry with his father for dying and longs for a different life, somewhere better than his homeland. He wants to be like his older sister, Alexand. Nothing will convince him that life in the army isn’t the great adventure he dreams about. Unfortunately, things aren’t that simple. (Jarad and Alexand grew up together as children. They were forced into the military at a young age. Jarad left, but Alexand remained a soldier. Their lives drifted apart until a series of events brought them back together. They were married after Alexand was widowed. Jarad believes she is still grieving for her dead wife, Katherine De Somme. He is very much in love with her, but this further separation in the form of Alexand’s imprisonment, has done little for their relationship. Alexand is very traumatised by her ordeal inside the asylum and Jarad doesn’t know if he can help her recover from it.) Trivia: Why has Alexand got metal fingers? Answer: Her fingers were severed by a samurai sword, during a mission as a young woman. (See issue 9:) The sword bearer was a man dressed in a black balaclava. He appears throughout time and place.
