Fascinating. Really — the mind quails. I’d love to know how much of this you make up as you go and how much you have planned. I know when I started writing my serial, all I had was the idea — no real characters planned, no arching plot, and now that I’m maybe 25,000 words in, only now do I know where it’s going; where it ends. Do you have an ending in mind, or is this truly open-ended and unplanned?
I think like you a lot of the writing is organic, and I find the characters surprise me sometimes, although there are fixed points which I need to inevitably tie into the plot. It’s kind of like weaving a tapestry, knowing that some things are quite flexible whilst others have to happen. (Although sometimes what I had once thought concrete, can be remoulded, which is one of the best parts of writing in this genre. There is an ending, many different endings, to this story, but nothing truly ends in this world, as there are so many characters, and so many possibilities.
