I marvel at how you manage to keep track of all the different stories you write. I have problems following all them, but then I have certain favourites amongst them that I look forward to read, each time a new addition is added.
I love the inherent contradiction here – a torturer who believes in the afterlife. It adds a sense of pathos and even dark comedy to this wonderfully sinister character.
Thanks Marcus, yes, Mr. Ash is probably the most vile character I’ve written, but he has a history which would explain this. Humanising him enough for me to continue writing for him. (Although he does make me nauseous occasionally.)
Hi Cheryl! There’s a really nice ambiguity to this issue. If the sound of screaming enables Mr Ash to imagine a world beyond this one – is it because he finds the sound so pleasing? Or because he can’t imagine a worse situtation to be in. He’s not a straightforward torturer for sure. Love the drawing – you’ve really captured his desire.
Hi richard, thank you, yes Mr Ash is the kind of man who has been conditioned to dehumanise people to enable him to carry out atrocities. It’s difficult to translate a character like him without seeming insensitive to what’s actually occurring and has occurred throughout history in various parts of the world. I’m always reticent to go too far with fiction, although he does feature more in some of the manuscripts.
Thank you, I’m enjoying looking at your illustrations and love your style. My favourite so far is “Wide Awake,” as I love the way you’ve applied the paint/ink to the paper.
Thanks Vera, it’s strange to write for this type of character in this style, but I’m really glad it works, as I think it emphasises how egocentric he is! Yep he’s a very bad man with semi pretty thoughts clanking around in his messed up brain. 😀

Hi Kenny, thanks, I’m curious to find out who your favourite characters are.

Your words give your images life
Your images give your words meaning.
I love it!
Hi Mary, thank you, I’m glad. Best wishes, Cheryl
A spine-chilling insight into the mind of one who tortures others..
Hi Russell, yes, it’s difficult to write for Mr Ash, as he is actually quite hideous, and I find myself sanitising some of his thoughts.
whoa, that one’s dark…
Yes, Mr Ash is very sinister!

Ash is a sinister fellow. I enjoy these characters immensely.
Thanks Lee, Ash shakes things up a bit! So who are your favourite characters so far, if you don’t mind me asking?

thank you, Cheryl! you’re right, it’s pen and watercolor on paper. So happy you like it 😀
Wow. Mr. Ash is very creepy. Thanks for an interesting portrait.
Hi, yes he makes me shiver too!
Colorful, poetic, and very descriptive. Your words are truly art.
Thank you so much 😀
There’s so much beauty in your words, even if Mr Ash does not deserve them. 😉 Love it — the post; not Mr Ash.
