  1. The characters come from all over the world, it’s really important to the story as there are so many people involved in this mythology. I come from quite a quiet part of Southern England, which may be classed as somewhat ethnocentric in it’s view of the world. I spent some of my childhood in Iran so was exposed to another culture at a very young age. I realised there were various ways of viewing and living in the world. My characters speak different languages, although this is translated to English for the benefit of the reader. (And for communication purposes..) For example, my main character Alexand was born in China, so her first language is Mandarin. Her mother, Inajda, is Russian, Anesidor is American, Juba was born in Somalia, Katherine’s parents are Indian and French..etc… I feel it’s so important to the flavour of EVERYTHING and makes for so many possible stories and challenges..I hope people can relate to them because they are real people from so many different backgrounds…

  2. So poignant! I love how your stories all have such heart – and I’m a sucker for time travel stories when they’re done well.

  3. Thanks, Chantal, that Guild Master’s General really knows how to create unease and chaos… “Run away from him, Abouna… run away, now!!!” I just wish we had the ability to time travel and teleport too… waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh
