The cart starts and Katherine and the Guild Master’s General watch Alexand’s father walk towards the convent where he will soon die.

The Guild Master’s General and Katherine arrive in Kolkata, along with Eric Mehmed. It has taken them four days, and in that time, Katherine got to know Alexand’s father much better than she had with the stories Alexand had told about him.

Alexand has managed to get more information from Sister Ancille about her father’s potential murderers.

Generals Edith MehXian and Xan Medani have travelled back in time to complete a mission to uphold time’s continuity, and to prevent their own world from unravelling.

Alexand has been attempting to find out more about her father’s killers, from Sister Ancille.

The Guild Master’s General has had the audacity to take Katherine with him on the very same cart ride that Alexand’s father is on. Neither of them is phased out of focus and are corporeal. The Guild Masters General has replaced his balaclava with a Stetson hat, and his sunglasses have clear lenses, so they look like ordinary glasses. They are both a few seats behind Eric Mehmed. Thankfully Eric doesn’t recognise Katherine as they had never met, although Alexand told her father a lot about the woman she fell in love with, so Katherine has insisted that the Guild Master’s General call her by her middle name, Anastasia.

The Guild Masters General takes Katherine to Alexand’s father’s house, before his death, where Eric Mehmed has just finished reading a letter, informing him that his daughter has sustained life altering injuries to her fingers. (3987)

The Guild Master’s General is still attempting to show Katherine how flimsy the fabric of time’s continuity can be, and before he returns her to the Kyuunansen (after educating her about the dangers of meeting Alexand) he has a few final events to show her. (India 3987) This story marks the 10th anniversary of Unbound Boxes Limping Gods on WordPress. Thank you to everyone who has read these stories over the past decade.

Georges De Somme is aware that it won’t be long before Filius Anderson realises it is he who is funding the Katherine’s Bullet program. Georges has stopped attending functions and has barricaded himself into his mansion. There is a forcefield around the perimeter which prevents Amanojuko being able to teleport in. He is now trapped, along with his wife Kavita.

Helga Ritter returns to the Floating Asylum to give news to Lord Anderson about the death of Eric Mehmed.

Alexand finds the Ocular Cyber-technology ward, where there are patients being assessed, and other patients recovering from operations. Sister Ancille sits reading to a man with bandages around his eyes but stops when she sees Alexand.

Alexand, as the orchestrator of the Katherine’s Bullet Care Centres, has security clearance to enter the medical dome, which Georges De Somme’s money has privately funded. She goes in search of Sister Ancille, with the intention of questioning her about her father’s death.

Filius Anderson has placed a bug into Colonel Merek’s mechanical index finger and has been monitoring her conversations. He is pleasantly surprised to learn that her prodigal mother, Inajda Rekaya has re appeared, and is in fact an undercover enemy agent.

Heyem has stopped going out at night and rarely socialises. She has thrown herself into her work, and every night, after her lectures have finished, she studies the list of Amanojuko agents given to her by Alexand. Helga Ritter is the only one on the list she has recognised, but she is becoming increasingly paranoid and suspects practically everyone.

With the disturbing news that Lord Filius Anderson is interested in the genetics of her late husband’s family, Inajda’s thoughts immediately settled on the safety of her daughters, Heyem and Alexand. She left the Prison of Souls, reached the base of the mountain in Antarctica and transported herself to Saskatoon, to meet Alexand, to speak with and warn her daughter about the Amanojuko threat.

Inajda watched Grace O’Malley’s interrogation of the Amanojuko agent from behind a spy mirror.

Helga Ritter is introduced to Sister Ancille, who was present at the time of Eric Mehmed’s death. (Stay safe everyone. Keep inside if you can. This story is dedicated to all the key workers across the world, who are in the front line.)

Grace O’Malley interrogates the prisoner captured by Antun Rekaya and brought to her by Inajda Rekaya, who waits in the observation bay, desperate to find out why her husband, Eric’s body was stolen by this man and his cronies. (Stay safe everyone, look after each other.)

Helga Ritter travelled to Kolkata, to the convent Eric Mehmed was reported to have died, to gather further information about who killed him. She knocks on the convent door, of the order of Handmaids of Mary, feeling an overwhelming repulsion.

Helga Ritter has conducted various tests on the body of Eric Mehmed, Alexand and Heyem Merek’s father, and has found something else.

Inajda walks the corridors of Atlantis alongside Grace O’Malley, an ancient Irish warrior Queen, who Inajda knows little about, besides her legend, even though they have been colleagues for decades.

The submarine docks somewhere at the base of the arctic ocean. They have reached the Prison of Souls. Inajda hears a hatch opening.

Once on board the submarine, Inajda was taken down into the black waters of Antarctica, the only passenger on board an ancient craft salvaged from the Third World War.

Field Marshal Panak took the container holding the Amanojuko agent, with him all the way to Antarctica, where there is another, more secret rebel outpost. It is the gateway to an underground prison city, called the Prison of Souls. Only a few undercover agents know it exists, including Inajda Rekaya.

Alexand returned from the barn alone, and Heyem and Antun saw that the grave robber had disappeared along with the mysterious Field Marshal Panak. Alexand turns off the light so it is dark enough for them to see a projection on the wall. (Happy New Year everyone.)

Abouna Panak has used his writer to travel to Alexand’s village in Yunnan and materialises inside her uncle’s house.

Antun Rekaya has been quite shaken up by his niece Alexand’s recent high-profile announcement, against an invisible enemy, that she believes responsible for infecting her with that virus. Antun remembers being taken from his own home as a boy, in Russia, and seeing his parents murdered. He has a very bad feeling that history is about to repeat itself, as it is rumoured that the people responsible for annexing Russia are these Amanojuko fundamentalists. Antun has been guarding his children obsessively, to the point of madness.

Lord Filius Anderson has intensified the Amanojuko agenda, creating more positions of power for sleeper agents, and rich socialites funding his secret regime, guaranteeing them immortality leading up to his takeover in 4006.

Alexand has been receiving letters from her family, concerned about her exposing the Amanojuko, and the latest letter arrives from her Uncle Antun. She opens it, feeling responsible and accountable, but she is now three months pregnant, and suffering severe morning sickness, her career is demanding, and she is bickering with Jarad again. She feels very alone as she opens up her uncle’s letter, and wishes that Katherine was here.

Lord Anderson has instructed that in order to compensate for Katherine’s Bullet, and the failure of the virus to eradicate degenerates and rebels, more asylum ships have been commissioned, and set to sea. They are being filled with those previously infected by the virus, homosexuals, the mentally ill, the disabled and military rebels. He materialises on board his maiden ship, to consort with Helga Ritter.

Lord Filius Anderson has personally followed Alexand around, ever since she exposed the Amanojuko live in front of the world. He has camped out in the woods near Alexand’s house, and is currently observing her and her husband as they sit on a flat roof having dinner. He has planted bugs all over their cabin, and is listening into their conversation. He is waiting for the perfect opportunity to make Colonel Merek ‘disappear’, as she has caused great damage to the safety of his vision for a new world order.

Alexand has a plethora of questions she wants to ask Katherine’s father, but due to their pact, she continues to walk with him in his gardens.

Alexand returns to the army vehicle she arrived in, sits in the driver’s seat, watching people walk past, from behind the safety of the glass, after her very short honeymoon ended. She and Jarad had argued over why she wouldn’t talk to him about crying on the banks of the river. Jarad stormed off, leaving Alexand to become Colonel Merek again.

Heyem has spent two hours working with the military relief team, injecting victims of the Amanojuko’s secret project, with the antidote. She has been assigned to a tent which deals with the more obviously infected patients. It was arranged that patients be split into groups depending on the severity of their symptoms. This group of patients are symptomatic, some almost as sick as Alexand had been, before she was cured. Heyem is having a tough time dealing with all the suffering.

Katherine, Ajeeta Kothari and Jay Varma work together to identify the virus responsible for infecting members of the resistance, and to analyse both Alexand, Katherine and Juba Apfvarzian’s blood, to isolate their immunity, to find a cure.

Alexand was given more surgery to reverse the temporary procedures tying her to her bed, and has spent a week recovering. She is now supposed to walk with the aid of a nurse, but is still connected to the gene therapy drip, repairing her damaged internal organs. She is taking a walk, without her nurse, down one of the many long corridors in the army base, but Abouna Panak intercepts her to give her some unexpected news.

Katherine has had five blissful uninterrupted weeks on her own, working in her laboratory. She has even made a makeshift bed on the chair, so as not to be disturbed by anyone, anywhere on the Kyuunansen, as she struggles tirelessly with her research into the Amanojuko’s virus.

Abouna waited impatiently for Alexand to explain why she didn’t want to invest her inheritance in his war. Alexand, although shocked by the revelation, and by the amount she has inherited, is happy to tell him exactly what she plans to do with the money from Katherine’s trust fund.

It has been over a month since future Alexand returned Katherine to the Kyuunansen, and disappeared seconds later, without saying goodbye. Katherine is missing her version of Alex, and sits with the machine she used to send recordings to her parents. This time the recording is for Alex.

Katherine has grown impatient and as the fifth day of her recovery approaches, post-surgery, she is curious to peek out of her bandages, to find out if she can see properly, and more importantly, gain access to her laboratory. (This story is dedicated to my mum, as it is her birthday very soon. My mum, Barbara, is one of the kindest, wisest, warmest, happiness-inducing and funniest people I have ever known, and as some readers know, Alexand Merek is very loosely based on her, although Mum would probably disagree. Happy Birthday Mum, I love you so much xxx)

It is time for Katherine to undergo the operation to restore her eyesight. She has insisted on being conscious, as her curiosity about the advanced science outweighs any fear.

Alex hasn’t been able to speak or move for the past few weeks. She is rapidly declining, and her doctor has predicted she only has a few weeks left. Inajda and Heyem sit at her bedside, unable to do anything. Heyem sits opposite, after Inajda retrieved her from Hong Kong, warning her that Alex was close to death.

Katherine has spent the past few weeks under Ajeeta Kothari’s strict rehabilitation programme, and her recovery has accelerated. She has been waiting to undergo an operation to restore her eyesight. There is a day to go, and she is getting impatient. (This issue is dedicated to Margot Kidder, one of my childhood heroes. You always were and will ever be the best, the funniest, gutsiest, most unpredictably brilliant and warmest, Lois Lane.)

Alexand’s condition is rapidly deteriorating. The nature of her illness is cyclical, and degenerative, and her doctor has given her the maximum dose of Katherine’s inhibitor, to try to stabilise her.

Future Katherine takes Inajda to Nan Ha, to be with a very ill Alexand. Katherine watches from the trees, as Inajda makes her way down into the village, towards her brother’s house. Inajda turns around just in time to see Katherine dematerialise back to her future world.

Katherine is lead into a great chamber, with a gigantic circular table at the back. There are robed officials around the table, and they are flanked by thousands of warriors in similar battle dress to Samira Ganesh.

The very practical Inajda, who has been helping her get stronger, has speeded up Katherine’s rehabilitation. The day has arrived, for Katherine to be taken to the sanctuary, by future Anesidor Sumian, safely away from the reach of the Amanojuko.

Jarad ran away from Helga Ritter, towards the last room in the hotel, and stepped inside the wardrobe, in an attempt to hide from the approaching Amanojuko. She has been pacing up and down the room, attempting to figure out where he is.

Helga Ritter materialises inside the bedroom, and walks towards a sleeping Alexand Merek.

Alexand attempted to follow Jarad, despite being blind, but ended up collapsing by the doorway. She lay there, staring at the darkness, unable to move, calling out for someone to help her. Her cousin Toreth came, and carried Alex back into her bed, then called for Doctor Azizi. He sedated her and she has spent the night sleeping. She has woken again and insisted the doctor help her get out of bed. Doctor Azizi has spent the past few minutes scolding her for ignoring his advice.

Helga Ritter materialises in the East of Yunnan, where most of the habitable villages are. She has a great task ahead of her, but her writer will aid in locating the elusive Lieutenant Colonel Merek, and more importantly save Lord Anderson from whatever diabolical fate has currently been forced upon him.

Helga Ritter sits in a lesbian bar drinking wine with Heyem Merek, in an attempt to extract information from her, regarding the whereabouts of Lord Anderson.

Jarad had helped Alexand to walk away from Lord Anderson’s tomb, and heavily disguised, the two of them caught the train home, towards the village they grew up in. After leaving the train, Alex is finding it harder to walk, but she is too stubborn to let Jarad carry her. The village is a mile away, and Jarad is getting nervous.

Helga Ritter has orchestrated the rescue of Amanojuko lords and ladies, from the ruins of the city. She has rounded up guards from all over the Russian peninsula, to aid her. But the most important Amanojuko is missing.

Jarad follows Alexand towards the ruins of an old hotel, as she attempts to hide the writer with Lord Anderson trapped inside.

Lord Filius Anderson has discovered Alexand’s infiltration attempt.

Alexand waits in hiding, for the Amanojuko scientists to leave the laboratory.

Alex follows the Amanojuko scientists into their laboratory, hoping she will discover the cure inside.

Present day Anesidor Sumian has cut off all communication with Inajda, since she discovered tracking devices on Katherine and Alexand. She has severed links with the Indian resistance, whilst she re evaluates safety precautions. She doesn’t mind being alone. She has spent time researching the best combinations of location, to travel to, in order to avoid being captured by the Amanojuko tracking devices. Unfortunately this means that no one in the resistance can find her either, save one.

Since Katherine’s death, Alexand has bigger plans for the fate of this factory. She has memorised the layout, and knows where all the corridors lead. She chooses her moment to fade out of focus, using her writer to disappear, so that she hovers between matter and electro magnetic energy.

Inside the Amanojuko factory, the entertainment has stopped, and the guests are being shown through the doors, leading down to the lower chambers. Heyem is doing her very best to remain in character.

Gianti Dincrind has been instructed by Lord Anderson, to develop biological defences for Amanojuko cities, to guard against possible terrorist outbreaks, once the Amanojuko have gained full power. She has been on an experimental asylum ship, for the past few years. (This story is set three years in the future in 3994. See Story timelines for chronology)

Juba Apfvarzian moved to the other side of Mogadishu, to escape from the people who have been watching him. He has to make a living, and like any good magician, the streets are the place to achieve his dream. (For Carrie Fisher. This world is emptier without you, but you will live forever amongst the stars.)

Jarad has never seen an Amanojuko base up close, although he has been thoroughly briefed, it could not prepare him for the wealth, and extravagance around him, as the group are escorted into the socialite lounge. (This issue is dedicated to everyone who reads these stories. I hope you have a safe and happy Christmas.)

Alex recovered enough to set off for the gates of the factory, (which is where the Amanojuko process the catalyst, used to infect the population with ‘plague’.)

Alexand suddenly feels very unwell, despite being very close to the factory, which she believes to hold the cure to her illness.

Alexand fights her feelings of despair, attempting to find new purpose after Katherine’s death.

Alex collapses onto the floor, taking Katherine’s body with her; she remains on the floor, hugging her dead wife, unable to move through the grief.

The Guild Master’s General has been sent to return Alexand’s writer to her. He has been stalking them for a few minutes, assessing the right time to approach, as his last meeting with Alexand wasn’t exactly amiable.

Katherine sits by the window in her laboratory, synthesising more inhibitor for the patients in the sickbay. She is getting nervous, today is the day she was promised a visit from a future version of herself, and the cure to her illness.

Inajda remained unconscious throughout the night. The future version of Anesidor Sumian has left her. Inajda wakes, inside her father’s cabin, some time in the morning. It’s the Fourteenth of May.

Katherine has been in a self induced coma for five days, and in all that time, the Guild Master’s General has made sure he watches over her, guarding her from Amanojuko agents.

The group have donned themselves in the finest Amanojuko disguises, and are ready to set foot further into Amanojuko territory. Alexand isn’t feeling well, and doctor Azizi has noticed. (For the LGBT community, everywhere. Love outlasts hate.)

A few days have passed since Abouna Panak approached Katherine in her laboratory. She has increased the dose of inhibitor, to attempt to prevent her body from deteriorating any more than it has already. She has made the decision to rest inside the sickbay alongside the other patients, as the long trek from laboratory to her apartment is too much of a strain on her body.

Alexand and the rest of the resistance have settled in a cave in the mountains of Southern Russia. Alexand has scanned the area; there are no inhabitants for hundreds of miles. Inajda has illuminated a map on the far cave wall, showing the topography for two hundred square miles. She scrolls through the map, until she reaches the nearest settlement.

Katherine is suspicious of Kothari, and despite all the signs she has changed her allegiance, Katherine has been highly trained not to give away information concerning the resistance.

Katherine, although getting very weak, has spent most of her remaining time in her laboratory, despite having to share it with the encroaching Dr Kothari.

Inajda has returned to India after a very long journey of espionage, on board the floating asylum ship. She materialises inside Abouna Panak’s office in Saskatoon, ready to submit her findings.

After being rescued from a farmer, who was intent on killing her, Alexand lies in bed, semi conscious.

Katherine has decided to undergo a scan to determine how much time she has left.
