Eldenath stands in the gardens, pruning rose bushes. She has been promoted to a junior National Guard and looks forward to starting her duties in the coming weeks. Her new duties will mean she gets to go outside the gates of the House of Plenitude and Mirth, to guard the public from bad things. To celebrate the 100th issue, and to thank you for your support these past three years, this story is set just before the first manuscript, which I hope one day will be available for you to read too. As usual, you have a nice pen and a vivid imagination-essential for a good writer- but if I dare to be critical-there is an awful lot of characters to keep a track of. Jumping from one story to the next each time you publish tends to make it a bit harder to follow the story line, unless one goes back to earlier issues and try to fit them together. Everyone, no doubt, has there own way of following your stories. Continuity of the same story from one publication to the next seems to me to hold more logic than jumping from one story to the next, but then that’s just my opinion, which should not be influencing your fine, imaginative and wonderfully illustrated writing

Congratulations Cheryl! And I do hope Samuel come into consciousness soon. I am intrigued that Eldenath finds herself (and Sam) in Christmas Island. That’s where refugees seeking asylum in Australia today are sadly being sent to for processing.
Hi Vera, thank you, and yes Christmas Island has a lot of ghosts in Alexand’s time. In our own century it’s chilling to think that people attempting to escape from torture are treated in such appalling ways by countries they’re seeking shelter and safety from.

I don’t always think of your artwork as ‘beautiful’. It is insightful, thought-provoking, exemplifies innocence when it wants to, but mostly there is an element of the sinister, a hint at the unseen. The ‘mind in the pen’ seems to dwell much more on the steel of the characters – even your portraits of the principle players speak volumes about them. I think it is very individual, exciting work. I really do wish you well with it. It deserves every accolade it gets.
